Chopped it. Bleached it. Works better.
I just rolled my hair under with orange perm rods, lightly misted it with water in a spray bottle then let it dry. Brushed it out lightly and here you go 50s do...

1930s with Long Hair
This is how long my hair is. So to get this look:
I curled my hair in the orange perm rods, created my waves and then pinned, pinned and pinned some more. Lots of hairspray and voila a 30s bob!
Wearing: Vintage sailor pants, shirt from Forever21, hand-me-down sweater, necklace from my dad, thrifted vintage ring.

My lovely great aunt sent me these scans of my great grandmother Helen Elizabeth (Reagan) Harris. Aren't they amazing! I will be posting more family scans soon as I have piles of beautiful pictures that I will be scanning in!
They give such great inspiration for fashion:
1937 Helen Elizabeth, grandpa Bob and great Grandpa Louis Robert SR. fixing his car. Great Grandma and Grandpa got married when grandma was 16 during the depression...they moved out to California from Kansas.
1937 -
1949 neighbor Wilma Swell and Helen in bath robes (to show off the snow in southern CA?)
1937 Helen Elizabeth and Louis SR
1930 Helen Elizabeth at 17 - I love the plaid and finger waves!
1954 Family picture taken in celebration of Bob's high school graduation and Tonya's jr. high graduation. This would have been a very big deal to Helen Elizabeth as she completed high school as an adult and went on to earn various degrees in university and even teach at the university. Great Grandmother is wearing a light grey dress with matching jacket with white piping. She worn this dress sometimes to church on Sunday' and to PTA meetings and Band mothers, your grandfather was in the high school band. She attended the Unity Church in Covina.
Early 30s-
1940 - great Grandma and Grandpa's first house
July 1948 Helen and great Aunt Tonya in her recital dress
Early 30s: Helen Elizabeth with great, great Aunt Ethel
1943 my grandpa Bob and Helen in her Women's Ambulance Corps uniform

My Interpretation
Ok so I posted a video yesterday on how to do a vintage look and I decided to try it - only do it my "make it do or do without way." I only own one curling iron, so this is the way I use that curling iron but get different size curls. Since making this video I have bought the smaller sized perm rods, so no more lipstick tubes for me, ha ha ha. I also found that it I didn't retain a lot of the lessons I learned about making videos from my broadcasting school days - this took me forever to put together, but next time it should go much faster!
